i was shocked to discover that ving rhames is playing kojak in the new tv series. im not shocked because ving is black but because i feel the character is established in my mind as a bald white, greek bloke. however, my girlfriend completely disagrees with me, what does anyone else think?

I'll wait and see. It'll be hard to fill what'is face's shoes whatever colour he is!

On a note of colour, when I went to see 'Macbeth' in Stratford on Avon I had to laugh because they had cast a black guy as Banquo. Banquo is the only character in the whole of the play who is actually described, as 'blonde' blah de blah - the whole point is that Shakespeare was doing a little bit of pandering to the royalty by making it look as if they descended from Banquo.

Having read over my last post, has to be said it was years before someone black was actually cast in 'Othello' so just ignore me please....
Even in the original, I always thought it rather strange that a Greek chap was called Kojak. Isn't that a Polish or Balkan region type of name?
