I can't get my head round the new method of payment for Tesco online grocery shopping.

I've shopped online at Tesco and had my groceries delivered for years, and always used my card details without a problem.

This week when I went to checkout it's telling me I need to verify my card through an app on my phone.

I have no idea at all how to do this.

Has anyone else done this, and if so can you talk me through it in an idiot-proof way please?

Are you sure they say you need an app or is it just a code they send. Do you have a smartphone? DOwnloading the app is quick
Do you have the banking app for the account of the card you are using to pay with. If so just go into that app and confirm that you want to make a payment to Tesco.
Think you can do this if you use online banking and have the app. If not, I'm not sure you can verify. Hope someone more knowledgeable can help.
yes sounds like your bank app not Tesco app you need. Which creditcard is it?
jno link is just for a tesco bank account
Have you changed your card?
I had to do this a couple of weeks ago, and in all the years I've been shopping online at Tesco I've paid with my Tesco bank credit card.
It told me to open the app on any device, which I did. I was then asked to confirm it was me trying to make the payment. I just clicked 'yes' within the app.
yes, sorry, you're right bobb
My messages pop up with a six figure code
or is this something different?

two stage doo-dah ( to check that the person paying really is the person buying) I think is an excellent idea - having been cloned. Jesus what a pain that was.

Many thanks for all your advice.
It seems that I need to download an app and use it to verify my payment card, but I can't get the app unless I use online banking, which I don't.
What a pain.
Now I can't order my groceries online.
Well neither will I because I don't have a smartphone so no apps for me.
I have also a similar problem .... recently I have tried to buy items on-line and also book up a coach holiday using a credit card. In both cases they wish to send a code to my mobile to confirm who I am .... the problem is ..... I don't possess a mobile phone ! I then have to contact the companies on my house phone to pay!
do you have another payment card?
anyway. try using online chat...the must be others in the same boat
We have the same problem as Teacher and OH has almost had to give up buying on line as a result. Last time he bought something we ended up telephoning the company and doing it over the phone (also difficult as he's pretty deaf and I had to act as intermediary).
We have no mobile reception in the house. Also had to abandon internet banking for the same reasons.

I think that in order to be able to confirm it is "you" making a payment you need a phone that can receive a message with a number to input it is you. I sometimes also get a notification saying my card has been used for======= and to call if it wasn't me
Are you sure they won't send you a One Time Passcode? You don't even need a mobile to do it that way as they will send a OTP to a landline if you prefer.
I have had a similar issue, but it sent a one time pass code to an email address, which for various reasons was no use to me.

I am just going to start shopping elsewhere.
I expect it will be all like this one day.
It will barsel. First they wanted you to use a call centre. Then they didn't like that and they wanted you to use a website. Now they don't like that and they want you to use an app on your phone for everything.

I have to try and sort all this out for my elderly parents who've got no chance of following any of it, and I can barely cope with it myself.
