Mobile phone photos

I have a Motorola V3. I used the disk that came with it to set up moble phone tools on my P.C. I was happily downloading my photos when suddenly the downloading stopped and the machine reported an error. Since then each time I try to download more photos my pc. will not recognise my phone and tells me that it cannot find the phone modem. I was told at the Orange shop that I needed to visit the Motorola website to download a disk for the phone. I tried to do this but seemingly I was unsuccessful. I have un installed the "mobile phone tools" and reinstalled several times but still cannot get my pc to recognise my phone. Anyone any advice? Do you think it maybe that the cable is "duff"?
