I would have thought that an example would be the PDSA advert, which is very sentimental. It high-lights common insecurities that people have, eg. living alone, dieting etc. It's highly emotive. As to its effectiveness, I'm not sure, personally i find it over the top, and I love pets!
Oh god, the NSPCC advert with the background song - This Womens Work by Kate Bush. Its harrowing. First time I seen it I phoned up and donated 5 a month. I haven't even noticed those fivers going which goes to show that we could all afford a few pounds a month to a charity.

Shaz you havent noticed those fivers going out of your bank account because you never actually had them

surely all those old bt adverts that tried to blackmail you into phoning your parents despite the fact that when you did all they did was moan at you!

The anti smoking ad with the old man in a hospital bed talking with a husky voice suffering from throat cancer asking his kids to make him a promise"promise me you will never smoke"he says

it certainly me me stop and haven't had a ciggy for 2 years now
