green energy....

To what extent is "going green" a reality we'll have to concider due to non renewable fuels running out?
To be honest. Im really confused. I dont know what to believe. It appears to me this "going green" thing, is just a facade. Its almost a commercial gimmick. A new selling point. Slap something like saving energy or green on a new product, and people will buy it. Green green green im sick of hearing it.
Then on the other end, there are scientists saying its all rubbish this green stuff. Global warming? its normal. Its part of a cycle thats always happened and its no big deal at the moment. Government reports telling us the opposite, freaking us out. Trying to tell us we'll all die in some crazy flood or some nightmareish frozen world senario.
finally...this is what i dont understand. IF going green IS such a big deal...why isnt there more things done about it? Everyone argues about wind farms for whatever reason....the technology to me appears out dated and old. Why isnt more research put into it if it really is a serious problem?

And dealing with this is going to be unpopular with many voters (unless one lives on a Pacific atoll a couple of feet above sea-level). So no-one in any power is going to do much until more catastrophes occur. Look at the pathetic response of the (now second) largest polluter in the world - couldn't even by arsed to sign up to Kyoto. Its just not a voter-winner when so many people are just to cheap carbon energy sources.
Creationists have been predicting the end of the world for years, now that that creationism is out of fashion it's the turn of the atheists to do the same.
It's just an excuse to pick your pockets, decades ago you'd pay the local priest a tithe now you pay the Government a "green tax" you should know not to complain as it's for your own good...
Danny old boy I've read 2 of your posts and I have to say I like the cut of your jib

everyone should go green save the planet ,recycle this recycle that , watch your carbon footprint unless you are a football fan............40,000 plus fans fly all the way to moscow from england to watch a football match that lasts 90 minutes........................ carbon footprint maybe we will start next year ?????????????? maybe everton will win a trophy ??????????????
How do you know it's going to last 90 minutes? Do you have crystal balls? Or is it just the way you walk?
But you're right self denial is the way forward we should all flagellate ourselves for our conspicuous and profligate use of energy for pointless things like computers and holidays.
Wicked wicked people poisoning mother earth, repent repent! The end of the World is nigh! We've never heard that befor have we?
P.S.
That's sarcasm by the way, some of the atheists don't get sarcasm or irony, but they're still very very happy apparently....

Danny, it's true that temperature cycles have naturally varied on the Earth. However this one is different, It started naturally enough but this time the temperature rise cannot be explained by natural causes.
Unfortunately there are a lot of media types who jump on any misleading argument and oddball scientist and love to build a "Global Warming Hoax" story.
We'd all love that, we could all stop worrying and go on burning fossil fuels.
The Royal Society have a nice page with all these misleading arguments here:

Your one is "Misleading argument 1"
There is a lot of research going on and windfarms are becoming big. The UK will shortly become the biggest off-shore wind generating nation in the world.
Trouble is you can't rely on wind to blow and the sun to shine exactly when you need energy. It's usefull but it can't be the only solution. That's why nuclear is big news right now.
In the long term though nuclear fusion will probably be the answer but building a little star on Earth isn't easy, it's been done but it will be about 30-40 years before the first commercial one is built
