Is there any legitimate way of tracking down my old cars? I'm looking to buy a classic car and it'd be great to track down cars that used to be in the family to see if any were available for purchase.
I'm aware you can obtain some details though an HPi check but, rightly, that doesn't tell you the registered keeper details. Fortunately, the cars I'd like to trace were reasonably uncommon back then, let alone now. The two I would really like to find are a gold Mitsubishi Colt BKX587X and a red Mitsubishi Lancer A739ERB but I've tried to locate them via owners clubs and classic japanese car clubs without success.
Just went on to the DVLA site. Cool! Fun looking up cars. Guess you could do a neighbourhood-watch thing and checked to see the neighbours' cars are taxed! But won't that only work with cars that are less than 25 (?) years old? Am I right in thinking cars older than that don't need taxing? In which case, you'd have to go for the insurance site.
