National Savings Guarenteed Equity Bond What a joke!!
3 Answers
5 years ago I sold my Triumph Bonneville for £3000 and thought I would invest it in the above scheme/product.
It matured last week and whilst I realise that the Footsie hadn't performed too well I was looking forward to a fair return. I knew I wouldn't lose any of the original investment but you can imagine my disappointment when the cheque came yesterday go on go on go on have a guess how much interest Gordon Brown gave me for 5 years go on.....
Thirty four Quid!!!! Yep all of £34.
My wife and I have a cash ISA each with National Savings and yes we are looking to transfer out of it.
Any suggestions please!!?????

Any investment linked to the stock market bears some risk and growth cannot be guaranteed. You are in just the same position as many investors in pensions, life policies/endowments and the stock market. Luck is a factor- if it had matured a coupel of months ago you may have been looking ata reasonable product.
I'm not sure that the performance of this equity bond should by itself be a reason for transferring out of your ISA- that decision should be based on rates elsewhere and not done simply as some form of protest.
