Good Afternoon.

I just wondered if anyone could point out a few music sign-posts for me please.

Currently listening to a lot of Lou Reed and Brian Eno - that is, one album of each.

Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
Lou Reed - Transformer

Anyway, what has attracted me to both albums is the kind of tightly restrained madness. It consists of strange noises and "camp" song structure. Anyone who has heard both these albums will understand what I mean by this (I hope!).

What I want to know is: Are there any other artists who offer this kind of sound/structure? Contemporaries or otherwise?

Yrs,

Jean Michel Jarre is very good

probably not that helpful, but both those artists's albums are listed under the glam rock genre. here is a list:

i would say jarre is excellent, got all his cds. but i am guessing you would prefer the glam rock lyrical rather than ambient instrimentals ?

Lou Reed's 'New York' is in my top 5 of all time, but look up Venus In Furs by his old band Velvet Underground for sheer bliss.

Also - try some Tom Waits... beautiful stuff.

Fully agree re Tom Waits. I'd suggest you try "Heartattack and Vine" first:

Actually - this is a better version

That version of "Perfect Day" is truly horrible...
Love Velvet Underground
Tom Waits

Jersey Girl
Agreed with Mark on that one it was awful

Also love the Cure.... I will rest and just say I love most things =)
Hmmm - I love that version!

As to Tom Waits singing Jersey Girl - damn that's gorgeous
Course, If you want quirky genius, the Divine Comedy fits the bill (sorry, I'm enjoying this)

I'm not much of a fan of The Divine Comedy, although I quite like "The Gin Soaked Boy".

You don't actually need to apologise for participating in a discussion or expressing your opinion, you know, unless you're ashamed of it...
Some guilty pleasures here...! Although I'll spare you all the Steps videos.
> Also love The Cure

Me too, especially Pornography and Bloodflowers...
I'm more a Disintegration, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Three Imaginary Boys fan. Oh - and Head on the Door. I wonder if you can judge people's age in any way accurately by the albums they like - as in what era Cure, or Beatles, or even U2 that they favour
