My sister has unfortunately had to separate her dog from another that were companions. This was heartbreaking but necessary. Now her remaining dog is understandably missing her friend and not herself at all. It's been over a month now and still she is not at all happy. would she be best to re-house her dog with someone with other dogs or is this something maybe the dog will get over in time?? Nobody loves dogs more than me and it breaks my heart to be in this dilemma, but the dog has to come first and her happiness is paramount.
Any ideas (hard as they may be) would be gratefully received.
Thank you.

I think it would confuse the dog even more if she were to be removed from a second loved one.

Could she not become a PAT dog or brought into some other social activity by which she gets out and about meeting people and other dogs? Or is it possible that your friend could (with careful selection) get another dog, or even a cat?
