ITV News - dogs being taken for slaughter......

Has anyone seen the ITV news, there was a preview of a story being shown at 10pm, about someone stopping a lorry load of dogs being taken for slaughter to be used as meat, think it was China?

LEGAL ACTION ADVISE! OVER CHARGING VET - PLEASE HELP ME!!

Just got a new pup from the rescue centre . . . .

just munched my first course - and there is no difference between a lobster and a goat being killed. - I have split Lobbies in two and had their half shells jumping around. No issue with eating goat, just having it executed in front of you while you eat (in Taif in Saudi) was a bit rich.

Am on the WWF terrorist list for what has been down my gullet but I take the attitude of "you have to try it once and then you can say whether you like it ot not"

The thing here is we in the West associate dogs with being pets, not food. The Far East baulks at eating grungy and disgusting things as cheese, in their perception, especially mouldy blue cheese (which I love by the way!). And perceptions is what this is about.

DT the issue that the OP was making was not about what we eat but how the animal is treated while it is still alive. My dad used to go out ferreting with his mate and we had lovely rabbit pie but the animal was killed humanely. It doesn`t matter what animal it is. As you know there are cultural aspects as to what is considered ok to eat and what is not.

define to me what is humane.....the fact that the animal sees the knife or doesn't (in most cases execution is very quick - can't say that they aren't well fed, they are or the meat would be manky. The treatment in cages as to joint breaks, yes I would agree and that goes on all over the Far East.

There is a brutality in all of this but then people love cheek to jowel (as in 4 to probably the size of your living and dining room in Hong Kong) and many do not have fridges - ina 35C+ heat, fresh meat is imperative.

The original question was has anybody seen the ITV news blah blah think it was China? and thereby inviting comment. There was a slight inference to treatment at 19.30 by Jules but only slight, so I would argue the scope for comment is pretty open - and, by the way, I have not seen much response from him as we have gone on.

digression - I am not a huge fan of Thai food but love Sichuan - funny isn't it but probably the difference in spices used.

was that here in the UK being that Boxing Day is a very Brit thing and something that our American cousins do not know about...or have a misconstrued idea.

By the way, you mentioned Thai people (or someone did on this thread) Much as I like and respect the people in the far east I remember when I was in Bangkok and one of my colleagues was horribly attacked by a taxi driver. I happened to be there when she was still in hospital. When I went through immigration in Bangkok the little man on the immigration desk held up a newspaper with the headline of what had happened on the front page. He said "I am sorry". He saw my uniform and felt he had to apologise on behalf on Thailand. I ended up trying to reassure him that those things can happen anywhere. The Thai people are very different to the rest of the Far East and they are lovely.

The Thais do have a nice side, but underneath there is a dark current. I also found that feeling with Tokyo and loved Sofia Coppola movie Lost in Translation for the way it conveyed the deep brooding atmosphere of that city. Whereas Seoul is just a headcase and I was stunned at the overt brutality of women, never mind on the dogs.
