Too old

We are a couple in our early 70s and we are having difficulty in adopting a rescue kitten or young cat because of our age. We lost our 21 year old boy just before Christmas and the house seems so lonely without a pet. We live in a quiet cul de sac and have a nice garden, so no problem there. It seems such a shame that with all the love to give no one will give us a chance to give a loving home to some little cat.
Has anyone else come up against this problem?

Go for it Auntiemoll. Homes required for lots of older cats. I'm a relief driver with my local Cat's Protection and have never heard about the age barrier, must ask next time I'm in.

Good luck - my first cat was ancient when he adopted me. We five years together before he died. He was a bit of a grumpy old man but was fun to be around.

Pets at home advertise pets for rehoming, might be another avenue if you don't get passed the rehoming gestapo. I had the same when we adopted a rabbit. They wanted a hutch the size of a garage and a run larger than the average garden. Not surprisingly the centre had over a hundred rabbits waiting to be homed. The RSPCA are advertising a service you can register with to take care of your pets when you no longer can. Good luck in finding a new fur baby.

Auntiemoll - I can see no valid reason why you should not have a kitten. You obviously can look after your pets well x
