I was friendly with a woman who regularly donated bedding and food to Assisi, and what she found the best bit of it,was that they never put a healthy animal down. She only ever had high praise for the organisation . So sorry to hear of your loss,I've been there too and it is truly devastating
I don't know where you are --- but I have just adopted a 6 yr old Lake land terrier from Strayaid in Durham , and have had her for 6 weeks now.She is absolutely wonderful. She had not been spayed and they gave me a voucher to have this done at a local vets,at no cost to me.Have had this done all OK.
She is a very loving dog, well behaved and at time as mad as a box of frogs.
Hope you find what you are looking for-- all the best.
Hi All - well have had 4 teeth extracted and am suffering with various pain and cuts and ulcers in my mouth. More work to be done unfortunately. Anyway visitor is over from England and today her and I went back to Assisi in Conlig to look at the wee animals.
A worker was very informative who said that whilst I couldn't see many dogs in the runs etc she said their books were full to the brim of people asking Assisi to rehome them but they can't do it due to lack of space re the runs. So she has suggested to me to return after Christmas and she maintains there should be suitable wee dogs and apparently they try and find out any issues wee dogs have blah blah and try to match them with a nice owner. So that was nice to know.
When I got Mr Harv - they just handed him to me and said "we're not responsible for the way he turns out". That's all folks. Just a wee chat.
Shi tzus have long hair & require daily grooming, lots of work to consider plus they molt. Their squashed faces bring eye & breathing problems, also monthly anal gland clearance is costly.
Buy a *** (dogs tend to scent everywhere). Yorkshire terriers arent over energetic & dont require hours of walking but still fierce enough to guard you.
