just returned from visiting the local cat rescue in order to drop off their Christmas donation of goodies, a couple of friends and we 2 have done this instead of buying unnecessary presents for each other for the last few years. Wanted to bring them all home, but spent a very nice few hours playing and cuddling the inmates..... 2 were actually rehomed whilst there...Please consider your furry friends as an alternative to unwanted gifts this Christmas, it really DOES make a difference

I've spent most of the afternoon searching (online) for a new bed for Frankie - a little Igloo type with a source of heating. I gave up as my head was starting to hurt from looking at all the options.

He is sleeping in a cardboard box just now - up against a hot radiator, it's between me and the kitchen. He is happy.

Good idea MM .....I always send a cheque Xmas and in the summer to a local cat rescue sanctuary and he the chap who runs it is or was a dog warden for the council. He won't have any animals put to sleep.....he is a wonderful chap as are his helpers. I always prefer donating to animals above nothing else. Some charities are 'big business' now and I do not feel easy with that. Well done you, you're so kind x
Good idea Minty. Well done & thank you!
Great idea Minty!

A couple of colleagues and myself filled up some shoe boxes with essential toiletries and non-perishable food and wrapped them as care packages for a local homeless charity.

Well done Minty. I used to drive for my local cat rescue centre and always support them, especially at this time of year. Always want to bring one home with me.
I really want to get a cat. I've had cats in my past, but husband wasn't keen partly because we liked to go away for weekends now and then. We're quite housebound now (owing to his illness) so there's no excuse for not getting a cat. Where do I find one?
Cats Protection League or local Cat Rescue Jo are usually quite good, or occasionally you see them free to good home in pet shop windows etc. x
I would always go to my local cat rescue centre. All cats have had their injections, been de-flead, neutered and are chipped.
I adopted a kitten many years ago - I actually rescued it myself from the street, it was tiny, bleating piteously, and skeletal.

Kept it for several months (it was a most entertaining companion) then the day after I got it inoculated, it did a runner and I never saw it again.
^There's gratitude.
Canary - that is typical feline behaviour.

It's a shame that it didn't come back. They are charming and adorable when they are young (and a little bit evil too).
See my post in Animals and Nature.
