Whelping

My poodle *** is due to give birth in three weeks time. As I live alone, I am nervous in case anything goes wrong. Do I have to cut the chord? Also how do I prevent her from harming her young? Any help appreciated, and thank you in advance

I sat with my Cavalier when she gave birth. She instinctively knew what to do and all I did was clear the pups’ faces if they needed it. It was very uplifting.

To sum up the info - your dog will know what to do - animals have been giving birth in the wild for eons, they have the instincts to do everything for themselves.

does your vet know? Yes I know animals have been doing it themselves for years but that doesn't mean that it always works without a hitch. If it was me I would be talking to my vet about how to get in contact if things get iffy and what things getting iffy would look like. once you have set up your plan B I an sure you will be much less worried.
