plug in air fresheners

the ones that have a fan in them and waft a smell through the room, are these safe to use in a smallish room just 2 metres away from the dogs basket,

Depends on whether or not you want chemicals in the air all the time. Hasn't there been some debate about this recently. I personally wouldn't use them. The other thought is would the dog be interested in it and maybe pull it off the wall - although I doubt it you have to consider all aspects with pets they do the most surprising things sometimes. Best just wash his bed more often if it's the smell you are objecting to!!!!

Hi, I don't know if they are Ok for dogs, but they can be deadly to birds.... Obviously birds are a lot smaller, but I myself find that this type of air freshener irritates my 'chest'. There was a thing on 'How clean is your house' where they showed you how to make a natural freshener....
Bicarb [about 4 tbs]...add a few drops of essential oils [they used tea tree and lemon] wrap it in a muslin cloth and suspend it above the dogs bed. I haven't tried it myself, but it might be worth a go.

I find it can give them breathing and/or allergy problems.
