My 2 year old dachshund is potty trained and paper trained if we are gone for any length of time. He has recently decided to stop using the paper. If we don't get him outside often enough, he pees on the other side of the house or sometimes next to the papers! It is almost as if he is avoiding the wee wee pads altogether. Any ideas why he is doing this?
just wondering why you never trained him to go outside?
i have a 13 month pup and he's been going outside for months and i would never expect him to go in the house. he is crate trained and will go up to 5 hours on his own if he has to - which i might add is rarely.
perhaps he is trying to tell you something
mine's been trained to go through the night like a child is and because he's crate trained he waits till we get up which is usually 6.30 am. have you tried crate training at all ? there are some great sites on how to train an adult dog
i had to look up what your temp is in centigrade works out to -4C, I wouldnt get up then either lol
A 2 year old dog should not be going inside the house at all.
I have a dachshund and used to live in a gardenless flat and I would have to take him out for a wee every 2 hours or so. I admit it is annoying when it's rainy or cold but that's the price to pay for owning a dog. Mine soon learnt that the quicker he weed the quicker he could come back inside.
Your dog is not using the paper or pads because he thinks it's fine for him to soil inside wherever he wants.
If you teach a dog that he needs to go outside (This training WILL unfortunately involve a lot of standing around waiting and profuse praise when he does wee wee) he will learn to hang on until he's let out.
If he's getting up during the night, restrict his access to water in the evening and maybe even when you are out.
I recently had a houseguest for 4 days with a 14 month old intact Yorkie male. My three males are neutered and the female is spayed. Could his peeing be in retaliation or reclaiming his space? We never had a problem before this. The Yorkie did mark a couple of places and I cleaned with vinegar- I have wood floors throughout the house. Maybe I need to go berzerk with the vinegar?
