How do I rehouse a german shepherd pup of 8 months old?

My son bought a GS pup over six months ago as he worked full time at home. He then travelled to USA for a three week period and got a job which is going to last at least six months. My problem is I am not good with dogs, am too small in stature to walk him and I work full time....... How do I go about finding him a new home? I have contacted our local Animal Welfare etc who all say that they have no places for him. My biggest problem is that I am due to fly out to USA for a month in April and have had no luck yet in finding him a home....
Any advise you could offer would be very gratefully received.
