I'm sure someone will tell me i'm wrong, but my own pup is now about 12/13 weeks old and is already on adult dog food.
Do you mean giving a puppy adult food, or do you mean baby puppies being weaned from their mother onto solid food? If its the latter, then you can start introducing soft food from about three weeks. Gradually increase the amount and vary the type of food, using a milky porridge for breakfast and supper and a minced meat meal for lunch and tea.
Sorry pressed send too early!

Once the pups are eating solids they should be introduced to whatever type of dog food you intend feeding (dry complete, or tinned food, or raw/cooked meat with biscuit meal). By six or seven weeks they should be on a good quality puppy food until they are about a year old followed by a junior food until they are 18 months. As a rough guide, 4 meals a day until 4 months, 3 meals a day until 6 months then 2 meals a day until a year old, then its up to you whether you feed once or twice a day.
