How do I get rid of foxes from my garden?

.........that's about it really. I have a 300ft garden, and about half way down is a fox hole, and I see them wandering around the garden several times a day. Under normal circs I wouldn't be bothered, but after the stories last year about them attacking kids, I'm paranoid about letting my eight month old play on the floor with the patio doors open. I don't have access to a gun, and even if I did I wouldn't have the first clue about using one, and my partner has said no to poisoned bait for fear of poisoning the local moggies. Any help would be appreciated.

Thre's some really smelly oil called Renardine available from hardware stores and garden centres. It is said to deter foxes and other wildlife, instructions on can. When we moved here, our garden was also home to a fox, but we have a dog and when the dog moved in, the fox left. I was a little sorry but not very. Its not the danger factor, it's that their poo really stinks and if you tread on it in the garden or the dog rolls in it, as ours did when we visited for a second look at the house before buying (house was empty)...what a nightmare day that was, anyway as I was saying, it stinks and is very clinging, major deoderising prob.

Many thanks - I have joint custody of two labradors with my ex-wife, and have the dogs two weeks on two weeks off, and they love rolling in fox s**t. Can I still use Renardine?
It repels dogs too see http://www.roebuck-eyot.co.uk/
their site has a contact number, give 'em a buzz and get the definitive answer
But you CAN relax and forget all about foxes hurting small children - this is just crappy tabloid sensationalism. Contrary to popular opinion, foxes are almost always extremely shy, timid creatures who run at the slightest sign of trouble or disturbance - I've actually watched quite large foxes turn tail and run immediately when faced with a small spitting cat. The poo problem notwithstanding, if you can afford to leave them where they are, your family will have hours of pleasure watching these delightful retiring animals in their chosen habitat, especially once the cubs start to come out to play.
The fox will not harm your children but their droppings could well do so!! use Renardine on a rag and stuff it well into the hole then back fill the hole.from a pest controler
My mum just used Jayes (sp?) fluid don't know if it's the same, when foxes kept screeching their silly heads off in our garden - they've all gone now. And i'd love to know what you would do with gun - have images of you commando style waiting in the garden with a bandana and camouflage on lol...someone posted a really funny answer like that w hile ago... anyway i digress, good luck x
