Hi, I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in food & drink so maybe I'll do both. My cat eats cat food but she nearly always sicks it up again. I noticed that when she ate food I cook for her i.e. kidneys, liver she's never sick. The other day I gave her some liver and put some gravy from a packet of cat food on it and she loved it. My question is this: I cook the kidneys in a casserole dish just with some water. How can I make her a nice gravy? Obviously she won't like bisto and things like that. Thank you.

You'd be better feeding her proper cat food instead of human food. Most cats will eat human food over cat food!

If she's vomiting after she's eaten, that's a problem and she needs to be taken to the vet to sort it out. Too much liver can cause a condition called Hypervitaminosis A in later life. Also human foods are saltier and often contain more fat than cat food, not a nice combination.
Is she an old cat? I have two 17 year olds and one of them often brings back cat food. Also I have noticed that some of the beef in gravy flavour upsets her stomach.
I think it is when there is a lot of tripe in the food - you can soon tell if there is any in it by the strong smell.
Years ago, my Nan had a cat and never gave it cat food, only scraps and it lived to a great old age.
If the cat keeps being sick though, it may be best to take her to the vet.

No, sh'e not very old. She's only 6. She only sicks cat-food up, she doesn't sick up liver, kidneys or chicken. It really is only cat food. She's perfectly healthy, her coat is gleaming and she gets wormed and de-flead regularly. If I thought she was ill, I'd be off to the vet with her straight away.
Would it be normal for a person to vomit every time they eat normal food?

Noweia, I can see that you think I don't look after my cat properly, but I can assure you that she's probably seen by a vet more than most animals as we have a vet inn the family. The subject of her vomiting ONLY cat food has been discussed and has not given cause for concern. Also I can't see how fresh kidneys etc contain more salt than offal that goes into catfood. My original question was purely about making an appetizing gravy - I did not expect a lecture. Thread closed!
You'd be surprised at how many people I come across on a daily basis who think that's it normal for their cat to be sick every time they eat, hence my question.

Human food is fine. It's true that the liver is probably not a very good idea, but there is nothing wrong with feeding your cat our food. In fact it is better for them. Cats need a higher percentage of protein in their diet than us and dogs so if you actually look at the amount of meat in cat food you will see how little there is.
Your cat probably just doesnt like cat food hence the bringing it back up.
I feed my cat mainly on turkey or pork mince cooked in water and then served in the water, i then place a few cat biscuits in with it (the stuff that says complete meal is the best).
She also eats chicken and turkey and prawns. She loves tinned tuna and sardines but be careful too wash it first as it can be quite salty.
I tend to give her one/two meat meals a day and leave dry biscuits and water out 24/7.
Ignore anyone saying cat food is better, that is like saying a microwave ready meal is better than a home cooked one.
I hope this answer helps you.
p.s Most fresh meat is cheaper than cat food.
