My 13 year old border collie has suddenly become unsteady on her back legs. The vet x-rayed her and said she has a diseased spine. She's seeing an orthopaedic specialist tomorrow. Does anyone know anything about this ie. can she be treated and live a normal life again. Thanks for any help, I'm very worried about her.

There is probably something they can do to relieve the pressure and pain, such as giving her Metacam or other anti inflammatory medication, but sadly at her age there is not a lot of improvement that can be expected, but if it makes her more comfortable then you are doing all you can. You could try a Bioflow collar, and giving either Denes Greenleaf tablets or Glucosamine. They are natural and won't affect anything the vet prescribes. Hope it goes well tomorrow, please let us know how she gets on.

Thank you very much for your reply, I'll try anything to help her . I've actually got two bitches the same age, the other one is as fit as a fiddle, mind you so was Meg a couple of weeks ago. I'll give you an update when I've seen the specialist tomorrow. Thanks, Megxx

Lankeela, saw the specialist today who said she had a slipped disc. He operated this afternoon and all went well. I hope to have her home by the weekend. Thanks for your concern, Wendyxx
