I'm glad you are aware of that because it is not the inpression you gave in your first sentence.

That reads as if you are desperate to get the puppy because of its cuteness - and that of course won't last.
It is much better to get a dog because you love it in its ADULT form.

Irish Terriers have dropped ears. The pointy upright ears make me think it was probably a Norwich Terrier. The only difference between Norfolk and Norwich is the ears - Norwich up Norfolk down. Or 'up to the city, down to the county' or even 'NorwIch prIck, NorfOlk drOp'.
Could also have been an Australian Terrier, although they are much rarer. Other Terriers with upright ears are Cairn (do come in red but mostly brindle or cream), Scottish (mostly black but also in brindle), Sky (long coated and very long in back but not in red colour), West Highland White (the clue is in the name - always white!). Other terriers with pricked ears are Bull Terriers and Miniature Bull Terriers, but these are smooth coated and egg shaped heads.

Here's the link to the Kennel Club breed standards for Terriers, have a look at the Norwich, but also look at the Norfolk, as the photos of the Norwich don't show a red one.
