Maine Coon Kitten

I havehad my 15 week Maine Coon Kitten (Male)for 10 days now.
He eats well both wet and dry food. Is very lively as a kitten should be.
My worry is that he doesnt seem to drink much water.......I read so much that they should drink a lot of water if eating dry food.
Am I worrying unneccessary,

You've said he is eating both wet and dry food so presumably he gets his liquids from the wet food.. I never really see any of my cats drinking and they're ok..

My boy cat rarely drinks any water but still manages to produce a flood of wee in the litter tray - he must get it from the wet (and smelly) cat food.

I am sure that your Maine C00ne will be fine - bet he is gorgeous.

I had this concern too, the vet and vet nurse said cats/kittens are not big water drinkers, but I add half a cap full of water to his wet food.

I've had cats for 26 years now and they dont drink very much at all - generally only when they are ill. We have a male who must have some Maine C00ne in him - he is about 4ft long at full stretch - they are gorgeous cats

Hi Sunflower...You add half a cup of water to his wet food !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does that not make it very sloppy. ?

My sons ginger tom drinks for England. He won't drink from his bowl either. It has to be a cup.
But as a rule cats are not often seen drinking water. they just seem to know when your not looking.

I put fresh water down for my boy every day but he rarely seems to touch it however, he often races me to the bathroom when I walk upstairs and then he drinks from the tap in the basin - no idea what started him on that. He'll drink any old drop of dirty water he finds in the garden too. I think he just does it to annoy.

Hi James,

Glad to see you have you new kitten, don't worry about the drinking Maine Coons do drink more than other cats, especialy if the have been having dry food they love water unlike most cats, if you roll up a ball of tin foil or paper you will find him dunking it in his bowl, my first cat used to do this all the time my second kitten maybe not as much.

If he is having regular check ups with the vet with his vacs etc there should be know need to worry, I would only be concerned if he was going really mad with the drinking.

James said he had read that these cats drink alot which is true, I am just conrimfirming from my own experience of the breed.
