next door has a couple of cats... they are good neighbours but they have cats that use our garden as a toilet, we have spoken to them but they cant really do anything about it.... we have tried chilli powder water bottles , fresh chillis, cat repellent, even jayes fluid(sparcely).. obviously l dont want to hurt the cats... does anyone have any ideas to stop this behaviour.... NOT BB guns or catapults
You could always buy a dog ! Next doors cats never come in here. They're scared of the Dandie Dinmont terrier. Otherwise await the replies of the cat fancy on here. I don't know of any household foodstuff, plant or chemical or electronic device that works, whatever the adverts say
Soaking them with a hose or powerful water gun is your best bet, you will have to lie in wait for them to appear and then soak the monsters.
There are tons of methods of frightening them off with smelly stuffs - some work for some of the cat population but cats are pretty awkward animals and are unpredictable.
There are sonic machines that are said to be good - but I heard of cats who sit on the machines whilst they watch over their domain in the neighbours garden.
I think Jeyes fluid can be harmful as cats are fastidious in cleaning them selves, therefore ingesting it.There's a product called Cat off, which is supposed to be good, naturally i don't use anything as i have cats!
I have cats and I have given my neighbours some of the cat deterrent crystals which you can buy in Homebase or any similar shops - it smells rank but it's better than cat poo. Other than that, a water pistol is an excellent deterrent - they soon get the message. The cats go for fresh soil or clean gravel for their toilet areas, so bark covering can put them off, IMO.
