Chickens

Picking up 3 chickens this afternoon Coop ready got some poultry spice my grandad used it years ago the mix with cooked leftovers and mashed it up serving it warm in the winter to the birds delight is it still practised this way as I can not find any information ?

I use Layers Pellets, and fruit, veg, and edible weeds like dandilion leaves, herbs etc.

I also chuck them a few peanuts when I fill the bird feeders! they love em

I use layers pellets, but mine are fussy girls and like the pellets mashed up with some warm water.

They go nuts for meal worms though.

I read chickens, spice, leftovers and wondered why are you feeding chickens you're getting ready to eat. After re-reading the post I realize lack of punctuation mixed with speed reading doesn't make chicken soup.

Not so very long ago we used to feed pretty much the same in the winter. Mash with warm water to a somewhat sloppy mix and add the leftovers. In the afternoon a handfull of wheat per bird as that goes through the system slower so keeps them nicely fulled up through the night.

Must get my girls meal worms, as so many keepers say how popular they are. Does the fishing shop have them, or am I being (as usual) silly?

My girls hate layers mix, and pick around it, though I mix it in with their corn. Not that the silly cluckers are laying at the moment...
