sick swan?

Have several swans on the military canal just outside my garden and noticed this morning one who appears to be resting all the time. Thought it was dead at first but when I made a noise it looked up but immediately resumed resting it's head on it's back? I know nothing about swans - is this normal behaviour during the day for them? Any input gratefully received.

have just walked up and the swan has gone so I guess it's okay.

Good of you to watch them carmalee. Too much wildlife crime around these days.

thanks redman - the problem was - it didn't look as though it was suffering hence my question - seems it was behaving normally.
Agree wholeheartedly treetops - the more eyes open in the countryside the better.

The swans on the lake outside my work quite often have naps during the daytime with their heads tucked under their wings. That said, they are also so used to people they will walk straight up to you and let you stroke them so I'm not claiming they are normal :)

I'm just pleased it seems to be okay - "my swans" are quite used to walkers on the opposite bank to me so I expect your explanation is right - thanks
