i have a rescued lurcher who is about 4 years old. i have had her for 2 years. when i first got her she was scared of every thing and of any noises i dont think she was ever socialised. she has got alot better. but she will still not greet other dogs properly. she lunges at them and barks. i'm sure shes just scared. a few dogs she meets regularly she takes no notice of them now and greets them and plays with them. i'm at my wits end to stop her barking and lunging and thought maybe a pheramone collar would help her relax and calm her down. she has been spade.

I can't offer any advi8ce on the collars-but I sympathise with your problem. I also have a rescue lurcher...I've had her almost a year,and she's coming up for her 3rd birthday. She doesn't bark...but she still will lunge....and dance and spin on her lead when she sees other dogs. It's not constant-there are days when she takes little notice ...but when she does-it's constant motion!
I know she was not socialised in any way,as she needed full house training,and pretty much had never had contact with other dogs. She's improved a lot...
I'd suggest a few classes with a trainer if you can afford them. It may give you more of an insight in how to deal with her.

i did have a trainer come round a few months after i got her because she would'nt do anything. walk on the lead properly etc . she was scared of her own shadow. she would'nt eat she was so skinny you could see her spine and all her ribs. the trainer tried to reward her with food but she would'nt take it. she eats now but is still skinny and not interested in food as a reward so it makes it hard to train her. were as my other dog would jump through hoops for a tit bit. she is still scared of things. she s ok with the hoover but is scared of a bin bag. i feel so sorry for her she is a lovely dog. and i love her to bits.if i could just get her to stop lunging and barking at other dogs . she would be perfect. shes not vicious just scared.

Oh my....she sounds so much like mine...though my Sally is not quite so nervous. She was also very thin-ribs showing and hips sticking out. I cried when I first saw her. She likes her food-but is not a 'foodie'..she'd never steal food...and if she is nervous it doesn't work as a reward. Loud noises or bangs terrify her. Yesterday-someone was setting off an air rifle...she shook all afternoon. Because of that,walks can be a challenge as she would either bolt (so I always have her on the lead) or she tries to avoid path or places that cause her fear.
