Munchausen by Internet

Why would someone fake a serious illness online? there seems to be a lot of sick people in AB, do you think all these illness are genuine, or are they faking it? If someone is suffering from Munchhausen's disease isn't that enough? Why can't they just say they're suffering from it without bothering to come on here with a fake disease?

must have been a long time to notice enough irregularities to come to these conclusions ...?
you keeping notes too? looking things up? ... bit weird...
whilst some people probably do make stuff up, i've yet to meet someone without a single medical problem or question...

Actually Brenda, I think on a place like this you are more likely to find people with illness than in the general public. It is a social site, and people who are housebound through illness use it as an online community to make friends and chat to folk - as well as ask questions about their health problems as we have an in house Dr. (I'm not disagreeing with you btw, I'm agreeing with you more if that makes sense :))
The people here -i'll mention no names- who fake these illnesses are reallly quite smart. They do the research on their “conditions” so they know what they're talking about and are just seeking attention form people to come and leave comments like "i know what you're feeling"and there, there "it will be ok"
Just a word of caution when offering support to those claiming to have an illness. don’t assume everyone online is telling you the truth.

If we were that naïve/gullible we'd have all donated the contents of our bank accounts to Nigerian fraudsters long ago!
On this site I'm honest about most things (including my age, gender, location, experiences and qualifications) but I've posted on other forums using completely different personal profiles. Of course I recognise that others could be 'playing games' on here but I find it easiest to be 'trusting but cautious' in my approach to other people on here.
So, OK, I might occasionally be 'conned' by someone but all it will have cost me is a few moments of my time. That might be mildly irritating but I can't see that it's worth being really bothering about. So why are you so concerned, 1unbeliever?
