Hi my 11year old female boxer has got arthritis in her hips, but when I took her to see the vet on Wednesday he told me the reason she is limping badley is, she has now got it in her left ankle, she was prescribed Carbagesic 50mg and she was also having 1 Flexivet go bt on Wednesday the vet uped her carbagesic to 1 tablet twice aday 100mg. Do any of you animal lovers out there have any other good remedies for my dear old friend. regards WHF
Oh bless her. I know just how she feels. I can't advise on drugs but I would say keep exercising her but gently and make sure she stays slim. You are probably doing this anyway.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin are often recommended by vets, my vet included (my dog has a degree of arthritis in her shoulder). Check with your vet first though in case it doesn't fit in with the drug regime he has suggested.
Carmalee, I know this will sound as if I am thick, but what does one do with the apple cider? and do any of you know of a cream that could be rubbed into her joints, as I do on my old joints. WHF
West ham fan - I researched apple cider vinegar for arthritis many years ago when I was living in Africa miles away from any vets - I kept horses and had one mare quite bad with arthritis - I fed her increasing amounts over a period of months and her condition improved immensely. I have arthritis and only ever use apple cider vinegar which helps me. It is suppose to release potassium into the bloodstream which eases the condition - will see if I can find you a good link - in the meantime all the advice about regular gentle exercise and weight control (critical) is absolutely spot on. Will be back in a mo with a link _
west ham fan - I've just googled in apple cider vinegar for arthritis in dogs and there is a whole list of choices plus all the usual ads for doggy joint capsules - try it out - I'll be interested in your comments - all I can say is it seems to work for me as does cinnimon and honey together on a daily basis
Thankyou all for your answers, I have one more question , as I use Glucosamine myself can I give these pills to her or are the Glucosamine I saw in the pet shop different.WHF
