Dog destroying bin

Everytime we go out, Alfie destroys the bin and distributes the contents all over the house. Obviously we need to remember to lock it away but oftentimes we are in such a rush to get to work that we forget.

I don't want to start shutting the internal doors, thereby confining him to any little part of the house.

My question is why does he keep doing it when he knows he is going to get told off? (he is often hiding when we get back).

Is he just greedy and foraging for food or is he rebelling?

Btw... He is never alone for too long. Sometimes it is just a matter of minutes.
Probably both, but most dogs are led by their bellies, he can smell food scraps in the bin.

He was rescued in Spain and eventually brought back here. He never goes hungry.
Mwahahaha!, dogs even Spanish ones don't have to be hungry NoM, its just their nature, dont worry just put yourself a note to move your bin.
My dog does it too because she's a greedy item who could eat to Olympic standard, bl00dy thing.
Eh, I did'nt write mwahahah, I wrote Mwahahaha!
l o l whats going on?
Telling him off's not working then is it NM? Try just cleaning it up and ignoring him instead of giving him attention.

I fear the smell of food is just overwhelming him - I know the feeling.

I tell him off and he skulks away but I can't stay angry with him for long. He's so dam cute it's annoying.
If thats him in your avatar, who could tell him off, look at him a picture of inosence!

I have given him the silent treatment but that really seems to hurt him. He literally does anything to get back into my good books.
Never tell him off when you get home, he will have no idea why he is being told off and he may end up being afraid of you coming home, Dogs really do live in the moment, you need to ensure he cannot do it any more. :) xx

Chaffinch, that's not him in the altar but it's his double.

My cat is currently destroying my plant.... usually when I'm in the room and he's bored. I've told him I'll take him back to battersea but he doesn't seem to care... ;0)

Thanks ratter. I have to say though that he only ever hides when he has done something naughty which suggested to me that he does know what he's done.
look at it this way NoM, its better than rolling in fox poo daily which one of mine does!
Question Author
Eddie you just made me chuckle. I really needed that after the day I have had. Thanks.
