Another issue, the dog is barking and being scary to protect its territory, and then the postman leaves his territory once the letter is delivered.  Therefore the dog always wins so it perpetuates (?) this behaviour.

Seriously though, I think andy hughes, denisegordon and boodle are all correct and the dog thinks it has 'made' postie go away. Each day that postie comes back and pooch drives him away reinforces pooch's bravado and the behaviour continues.

It�s because of the different scents on the letters; the dog gets confused one person hundreds of scents, one very angry dog!

I worked for Royal Mail over 12 years. In my office most postmen/women agreed with the theory WHJ has posted.

My dog just attacked the postman today wich he doesnt normally do, do you reckon he will keep doing this and if so how can you stop it?
