What's wrong with my dog?

I have a Parson Jack Russell who will be 9 this year. He's been a bit off lately, not the dog I know. The past few nights he's been acting odd.. it started suddenly, chasing imaginary things around the floor, it comes and goes but he just jumps up randomly and starts chasing nothing and then stares at the walls, like as if he's following something around the room but there is nothing there! He's been eating fine but I havent seen him drink anything for days and he's also started urinating ALOT...

I'm taking him to the vets but cant get there until after the weekend. So was just wondering if anyone knew what the cause could be or has any ideas until I can get him there??

think you should really try to get him to the vet earlier!.........if he's not drinking much, and urinating lots, then something is very wrong, he'll become dehydrated, and could become very poorly!......try to get him there asap!.........hope he's ok...........

He could be becoming dehydrated and this might be what is causing him to see things. It's also possible that he could be suffering with dementia and one of the symptoms could be that he forgets to drink. I don't think any amount of speculation is really helping him he needs to see a vet and if he's dehydrated he needs to see one now.

does your vet not do evening surgery? Do you work such long days that your dog is left alone all day? Why cant you get there till the weekend?

I would get your vet to check his eyes as Parson Russells can suffer from a condition called Primary Lens Luxation. Although it needs an eye specialist to deal with it, your vet would be able to detect any obvious signs such as a wobbling lens and could refer you to a specialist if necessary.

My dog is doing this at the moment, without the extra weeing!! We have realised that it's due to a few houseflies that are really freaking her out. She is at present on our bed because t here is a fly in the lounge.

The worry with the OP's dog is the fact that it appears he's not been drinking for days and is urinating a lot.

Lottie we had a panic the other night because a big dangerous fly got into the bedroom at about 11.30. Dogs went out and shook on the landing while I hauled out a can of last years flykiller and dealt with it. Then we had to have cuddles and treats before settling down again....I despair of my two...

Could point to a kidney problem which would make him confused. I hope he has been to the vets.

LOL Woofy. We have never known Megs to act like this before and were wondering if she has perhaps been bitten by a flying monster. She has got so cautious about entering any room!

Hi Madness... I don't have dogs.. but had a cat that acted in a very similar way.. and the vet dicovered she was diabetic!.. I agree with all the other comments.. get to the vets soon as...Hope your doggies soon feeling better.. good luck! Mrs C x
