House or pet sit

A very dear friend whose work has suffered lately is looking for somewhere to house or pet sit for about a year - living free of rent or mortgage - while he regroups and relaunches himself proessionally. As he has a couple of pets he needs somewhere with a garden. Any suggestions as to where he can advertise and otherwise go about finding such a place?

There are a lot of house and pet sitting agencies, so he is probably going to have to join one to find this type of work.

they won't take him on as he has his own pets

If that's so I think he will find it very hard to get anywhere to live then
