Mouse pointer

Frequently when I wake my laptop up, for some reason the mouse pointer has been replaced by a magnifying glass symbol instead of the usual pointer.
I have to go into control panel to change it back.
I have not been using a program prior to this that changes the pointer. (It's usually just the internet.) It is annoying though. Any ideas why this happens?

I'm using the latest edition of Chrome browser and Windows 7 Home premium. All my security software: anti-virus, firewall, malware etc. is all up to date.

Have you changed the zoom settings on the last page you visited when viewing a page?

Don't normally touch the zoom settings. And the magnifying glass icon the arrow head is replaced by is just a pointer - albeit imprecise because of its rounded end.
