Mouse is home!

Hi,
Well still a little confused but the vet is convinced it is not FIP and is leaning towards either a tumour in the bowel or some sort of irritable bowel condition.
I've opted for a course of steroids and an anti-emetic [at my insistence], I am aware this [anti-emetic] may mask symptoms but he desperately needs to put some weight on.... he's lost 70g in a week...not a massive amount but he can ill afford to lose it.
So he's home....had a nice bowl of his kitty milk and not thrown it up!
Next big decision day will be Monday now....

Well the next step is to have him either scanned or opt straight for surgery, both are going to cost in the hundreds so I suppose it's to give me breathing space. Don't get me wrong I will pay whatever it costs but I would also not want him to 'wake up' from the surgery if there were little else they could do.
I need to get my head round it a bit :0/
But hey....he's home....not, as far as we can tell, in any pain and laying out in the garden right now in the sun with a full belly!

I had this decision some years back I asked the vet not to wake my pollenpuss if she found something terminal during surgery.... I found out by phone call but it was better for her...

Thats the thing Rowan..... the vet did say that the steroids 'could' make things worse if it is a tumour but she is still going with the irritable bowel type thing at the moment. Time will tell I suppose.
That said it is amazing how quickly a steroid jab has an effect on them, he seems better within himself already.....

Steroids can shrink any inflammation round a tumour so he may feel better for a while if that is the case... I do hope it is something treatable though...

I lost my cat to Fip, there is not a test to rule this out without dooing ultrasound/xrays, and that will not give you a definate prognosis until after, saying that, my cat was not sicky, early symptoms are inability to walk on four legs, (neuralogical) she would often hold her front paw up, + when you looked at her in a sitting position she looked abit wonky. + normally it is within the first 2 years of life or the later stages in life. I hope you get a diagnosis soon but from what your vets are saying i do not think it's Fip.

I tried and tried yesterday to say that I'm glad Mouse came home. Hope today and the weekend will be good for him (and you). Fingers crossed that Monday will bring a positive result. xxxx
