They are lovely birds and I can quite understand you being happy about it. Now that they have discovered the food they will likely be regular visitors.
Yesterday we had six. Five on the niger seed feeders and one on the sunflowers. Lovely. The also love lavendar seeds. Don't cut the heads off them when they've finished flowering. The gold finches will devour them for you.
Mine prefer sunflower hearts but that attracts sid the squirrel who can empty the feeder in an afternoon little blighter. They always cheers you up don't they - the GF's I mean.
You lucky lucky people. I live down near Brighton and ive only ever seen Goldfinches once...and that was in Surrey. Wish i could get them in my garden...i love em.
Try a feeder with the niger seeds - I never had any goldfinches until I read about them, and they really love them. I didn't get on with the feeders which have just a slit for the seed, but I've got one which is round and the seed comes out at the bottom where there is a sort of perch for the birds to sit on. (Not very good at descriptions!).
