Cat keeps peeing in the floor!

He's got access outside and a clean litter tray but the past 3 days he has peed on the floor, in the same spot. Thankfully it's laminate!

Any idea why he just started doing that. He never not used his tray before.

What are you cleaning the floor with and his he intact?

Normally just use floor wipes, although flash spray to clean the pee up. He was done when he was a kitten. He's nearly 8.

Soak the pee up with kitchen paper and use hot water and soap powder as it has now ammonia in it if you use cleaner with ammonia it encourages the cat to go there again.

It may also be worth a trip to the vets to check for urine infection due to the strange behaviou

Bicarbonate of soda, White vinegar, Biological soap powder works just as well, and won't take the shine off the laminate flooring. Let it froth up on the floor and leave it for at least 10 mins,
poor moggy maybe stressed hering fire works.

Evian, it can be anxiety too - are there any new cats outside? Our Rover has started this lark a few months ago - it doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally. I started buying washable doormats so (if he must) he can pee on them then they just go straight in the washing machine. Neutradol spray is good for removing all traces of scent on the floor - I agree with Helen, you must remove all trace of the scent otherwise he'll be back. (Unfortunately Rover goes in the porch, which has a nice absorbent concrete floor :-(

He put his clock back early, put his grub outdoors.

I thought that naomi, but it's not consistent - it's that he doesn't want to go out (sometimes he looks outside the back door in the night and won't leave the house, it would be sad if he's become frightened of things out there in the dark).

Possibly Boxy. There are other cats around although haven't seen any of them in the garden for a while now.

I'm not sure on the age thing, I don't think 8 is particularly old.

8's not old. Mine are way older than that.

I have a dog like that. In her case, it's definitely old age. She's very forgetful now.

Just a thought. Have you tried putting something over the spot so he can't use it? Someone I know had a cat that kept going behind the TV. She blocked his access.

Think I'll give it a good clean later with the stuff suggested and keep an eye on him.

It's a good ploy, naomi, but the worry is that at least at the mo we know where he's peeing - and blocking our space in the porch means we wouldn't be able to get out either... :-)

That's the thing Naomi, it's about 10 inches in front of his cat flap! There is a chair there (and a little rug to wipe his muddy feet on) but if I put anything else there it will block the cat flap.

I wonder if another cat is sitting outside his flap? That might be enough.

When you've cleaned the area, put something citrus smelling down (like lemon kitchen spray or something). Cats don't like it.
