Wood Eating Caterpillars??

I have a wooden shed in which I work as a florist. I keep lots of fresh stock plus cardboard boxes of dried, silk and other artificial flowers stacked together under a table against the walls of the shed. I attempted to remove these boxes this weekend with great difficulty because something had chewed into the boxes and the wooded walls and fused them together with such a strong bond I had to use a sharp knife to saw through the fusion. On doing so I found 3/4" lemon yellow caterpillars living in the "nest". I can't find out what these creatures are and desperately need to know to fumigate the shed as I think they are eating through the floor too as I can feel the floor beginning to give way beneath it's vinyl covering. I live in The Midlands, Uk.

It's possible it could be an invasive alien species brought in on plant material, if you store real plants as well as artificial

It sounds like some sort of moth larvae or maybe sawfly

To be sure, it may be wise to contact the environment agency or defra to get a positive id and advice

The boxes being 'fused' together certainly point to moth larva. The floor may be a totally unrelated species of maybe borer beetle larva.

Thanks for your responses. I was thinking along the moth/butterfly line myself because of the caterpillars, and also that I may have imported the wildlife on stock. If I can find out what they are I'll post it!

Fumigating is not the solution, either spray the whole area with a general purpose insecticide or woodworm killer or puff a broad spectrum inecticide powder over everything, if you have something literally boring into the wood it will need a woodworm specialist.
