My cat Max (see AV) was a bit poorly today and after a not so pleasant trip to the litter box I called the Vet and he said I should starve him overnight but didn't really say why and that I need to take him in in the morning. Does anyone know why I have to starve him - he hasn't asked for food today anyways

In case he has an upset stomach.

Might be to see if there is an internal blockage undigested food would interfere with the examination.

Duh, feel really silly now thanks guys, it didn't help that the phone line was quite dodgy so he possibly did say and I never heard. Thanks again :)
No worries pets do that too you (Vets too).

Also if for any reason the vet needed to put the cat out (say he had a blockage or needed to do an X ray) he would need him to have no food in his stomach or else he could choke whilst under anaesthetic.
