I had my darling Ben put to sleep today. I am so upset and sad. I know in my heart it was the right thing to do as he had no quality of life and was so distressed, but miss him so much. He was always by my side and although I have two other dogs, neither of them are quite like Ben, he was so loyal and always went over the top with his affection. Still I must be grateful for having him so long and having such a beautiful dog to love.

Thanks all for you help and advice yesterday, always much much appreciated.

riptide, people have been wondering how today has been for you. Thank you for posting.... thinking of you, and you are right, you have your wonderful memories. RIP Ben, and a big hug to you (())
Understand how you feel, as you say though this was your final act of love for him. ((HUG))
So sorry to hear this Riptide. My heart goes out to you xxx
So sorry riptide, Ben will be playing in the sunshine now over the Rainbow Bridge. xx
it is good of you to come back and let us know today, thank you

it was the only decision you could make, under the circumstances .. you can now take comfort in the knowledge that he is no longer in pain, and is at peace

just remember the good times with him

best regards
So sorry. You will always have your happy memories.
It was the right thing to do, but it's never easy, thoughts are with you.
So sorry riptide, even when you know it's for the best it's a very hard thing to do. Just have a good cry and remember the good times you had with Ben. It might be upsetting for a while but you never forget them and soon you'll be able to smile at the memory of those silly little thing he used to do.
I'm not sure this will make you feel any better, but I shed a tear just watching it for you!

I am sorry to hear that, you know you have done your best for Ben. xx
Sending you sincerest sympathy, must be heartbreaking for you but you did the right thing by putting him first. Very sad x
Riptide, he is waiting for you in heaven, healed and young again.
So sorry to hear your news riptide. You have given him a good and happy life.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I know exactly how you feel Hope this helps and burn a candle beside his p icture as that helps me . I still think of my lovely faithful Lab and it's been 3 years now.

Riptide, bless you, I have been thinking of you and Ben ...hugs from me xx
Sorry to hear that, riptide; it is always a loss and there is nothing more that one can say.
Remember the good times and smile through your tears when you think of him.
I'm glad you took the courageous step of letting him go. It's really hard for you at the moment but you would not have wanted him to suffer any more. Your other two dogs won't make up for him but they will help in their own little ways.
sending you a hug, you did the best by him , so sorry hes gone
Just for you riptide - this helped me

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won
You will be sad I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go
Take me where my need they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved
Please do not grieve it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close we two, these years
Don't let your heart hold back its tears
