What Would You Do....

I was just sat here thinking, imagine if you walked out of your house, down the road, and came face to face with a bear!
Is there anything you should or shouldn't do, when faced with a bear?

If it is wearing a duffle-coat and wellingtons. .....you should be able to subdue it with a marmalade sandwich.

My brother in law was the manager of a bear park/wildlife park close to Loch Lomond many years ago and I used to help out in return for petrol money, fishing and shooting many years ago.
We drove round in a swb Land Rover throwing bread and fruit over the side and sometimes they tried to climb in to get at the food whereupon they got a wee tap on the schnozz with a 1" diameter stick.
I was once cleaning out the den in which a black bear had just given birth when she got her claws into my jacket and was pulling me towards the cage bars - I had to abandon the jacket in order to get free....

I came face to face with a black bear on Chesterman beach BC. He saw me but didn't pay too much attention, he was more interested in eating salal berries, anyhow I kept my distance and slowly backed off and he carried on foraging, it was no big deal
I saw several other bears on the previous day but that was from a boat and for some reason humans in boat, that pay no attention to at all, they don't even look. We got within about 5m, they know when to come down to the fore shore at low tide, they turn over huge boulders with the greatest of ease, searching for crabs and the like.
