Devastated !!

Lost my 12 year old GSD on Tuesday and I am totally gutted. Not slept or ate properly since. The hardest decision I have ever had to make but I know it was the best thing for him , doesn't make it any easier though x

It never gets easier jasmin, but its the last most loving thing we do for our friends. You will feel less sad and start to remember the best bits of your time together, I promise, but the first few weeks are hard.

So sorry jasmin. I know what you are going through and it's not easy but it gets easier with time. He was a loved pet and you were brave to make that decision for him. Remember the lovely times you had with him and I'm thinking of you xx

Thank you both. he has had a good life and was loved so much by everyone who knew him. The house just seems so quiet without him even though we have another GSD. He was so full of fun and energy x

Sorry to hear your sad news jasmin. Knowing it's the kindest thing we can do doesn't make it an easy decision but you made the right one for him and that's what will help eventually once the rawness of your grief wears off. It will hurt but the memories will come back and one day you'll be able to smile when you think about him. xx

I am so sorry to hear that. Having been through it, I know exactly how you feel. It will take you a long time to get over it but you will,eventually, I promise.

jasmin - I have lost both my parents and I was upset both times. When my dogs and my first cat died I was inconsolable.

You live with your furry friend, they are always lurking somewhere. You interact with them all day - you form a very strong bond with them.

The loss of a family member is a difficult thing to come to terms with - but you know that you did the right thing. x

actually wolf, I thought that sqad's comment was surprisingly gentle. He lost a cat earlier this year so understands more than you might think.

I know - he was upset about the cat so I was hoping that he would be less direct in his answer. Jasmin knows, we all know, that we will recover from bereavements - but when the pain is still acute we also need reassuring.

Sqad's heart is always in the right place - not sure about his tact.

I'm so sorry, jasmin. It's a horrible time, but as woof says, it is the last act of love and kindness you can show your pet.

You have done the right thing, take comfort in that.

thanks Tilly and ladybirder for those kind words. And you are so right wolf63, I keep looking around to see where he is ! Stood at the back door last night for a few minutes for them both to come in when I realised he wasnt there x

So sorry to hear your news, jasmin. We lost Max our GSD just over a year ago and though he wasn't the first furry friend we'd lost it wasn't any easier, but it does get better and eventually you'll forget the sorrow and be able to smile when you remember the happy times you had together.

Oh no jasmin I am really so sorry. It was only a week ago I was really worried about my dog. thankfully he is ok. But it is so sad you have lost yours. I know there are no words that can help you, except to know we are really understanding how you feel and send all our love. take care. Brenda x

I can imagine how you feel. I have had several false alarms with my doggy since September. She has heart problems but seems to perk up everytime I think this is it. She is just turned 13.
I lost one 3 yrs ago and it was so upsetting but I still had this little one.
I am dreading the day I no longer have her.
They leave such a void in the house.
I hope when the time comes, she goes in her sleep but then we all wish for that.
