If a persons usual eating habbits consist of things like, bread thick with butter,(several times during the day) crisps, chips, salads laden with mayo or the like, meat but not a great lot of veg, well you get the picture. Do you think its possible to loose weight by not necessarily following a diet plan, but eating three proper meals a day,no snacking and cutting right down on alcohol,or do you think slimming clubs are best? Would appreciate your thoughts.

Buy yourself a good selection of fruit. Not just a few apples and oranges, but some blueberries, a pineapple, some pears, mango chunks, bunch of grapes and anything else you like, but loads of it. That way you always have something else to eat when you fancy a snack or a dessert. While you're there, by some Ryvita and rice cakes to replace the bread. Now you'll...

Have developed some terrible eating habbits over the last few years and now I really think my health is starting to suffer. Joined SW a couple of years back and lost 351b, so I know it works, its just that am finding it difficult to follow this time, god only knows why, I put it down to the menopause, its rather knocked me sideways for some reason, lol so have been feeling really(don't like to use the term) fed up with myself.
the best thing for you is to stop thinking about dieting and clubs - you become obsessed with the weight thing - cut out the fast foods and eat healthily and go for a walk - clubs never worked for me and then of course I resented the fact one is paying I don't know what it costs now but resented paying them £6 for them to tell me I have lost one pound or gained when my own scales can do the job. I lost 2 stone when I stopped obsessing. Good luck!

That way you always have something else to eat when you fancy a snack or a dessert. While you're there, by some Ryvita and rice cakes to replace the bread. Now you'll have made a start and you'll see a difference in no time. i have lost 3 stones this year and know exactly how you feel. I still have another 3 stones to go so come join us on the Onwards and Downwards thread where we are all doing our best to lose weight too. I didn't go to a slimming club but i started by cutting out cakes, biscuits, crisps and desserts. Went on to replace bread, pastry and cut out fats and finally switched to skimmed milk, 0% yoghurts, low fat salad dressings, and smaller portions. One step at a time is my advice.

Yes, definitely. Diet plans only work whilst you're following them. Healthy eating is a lifestyle. I think overweight people have some sort of a love affair with food and look upon it as a treat. It's not. It's simply one of life's necessities.

I agree with Naomi.
If people only ate when they were hungry and stopped when they were full. Why people feel the need to finish a plate of food when their body has already told them it's had enough is beyond me.
If you're feeling peckish go and have a drink. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger.
Eat slowly. You'll eat much less if you eat slowly.
