My cat follows me round the house, everywhere. So when I get in the shower he just perches himself on the floor mat or in the doorway and sits quietly waiting until I'm done.
Unless I start singing.
The minute I start singing he does this really whiny meow. Its almost howling. He's either joining in with me or is exceptionally distressed.

I thought it might have been the genre of music but I've tried pop, rock, r&b, country. I've even knocked out a few show tunes.
I have been told that to cats, human singing sounds like a kitten in distress. My mother, who had a lovely singing voice, once tried to sing to our cat. Kitty's reaction was immediate–she put a paw over my mother's lips to stop her.
Our cat started all that at Christmas when I opened one of those musical cards playing 'I'm dreaming of a white christmas. Every now & then I get it out now to test her & yes she still howls to it. The kids sang 'All things bright & beautiful' to her & she joined in again. The kids love it but I'm not sure she does. (congratulations on being chosen for
