I have been giving my cats hairball paste that is malt flavoured but they are still throwing up hairballs as I thought this paste made them pass through their digestive system...but I'm clearing up at least 5 vomit masses of hair a week... cats are well and eating fine. Can ant y of you lovely abers recommend any other medicine please?

If they eat dried food get one with a hairball ingredient in it, I used Gocat indoors and very rarely get a hairball. Have you also tried grooming the cats to give them a helping hand?

It must be that time of the year as I came on to ask about furballs as well !!
My 13yrs old is the same, he is bringing them up daily at the moment, not very delightful to be met with them first thing in the morning, even worse for him I suspect, poor soul.I'm grooming him often but he doesn't like his tummy being done.
He is 'off' his wet food but scoffing dried, I didn't know you could get special Gocat. I'm glad I popped on now !
Hope your cats feel better soon Purple_Popple, its quite distressing to see them retching isn't it?
Thanks for advice FGT, sorry for intruding on your thread PP, will pop back and see how things are faring with you and yours :)

I just have one PP..he is long haired, specially at the tummy. He is also suffering from flea bites as well, although not as bad as he has in all the years we have had him.He has been treated and the wounds have scabbed over cleanly, he's just not a happy chappie at all :(
FGT, i'd be interested in clipping him (his underbelly) but as timid and docile as he is he turns into a psychopath when I give him his flea treatment or try to get him into a cat basket, any advice would be very welcome !

I know I shouldn't laugh but I did FGT :)
I have catnip planted in the garden, maybe that's why he is so docile, I haven't even given that a thought, he currently has his head up against the router as it's cosy :))
Righto, i'll dry some catnip and sprinkle it over his grub and get another pair of hands to help with the clipping, his underbelly hair is very long, he doesn't like it being touched.Cruel to be kind, he'll have to bite the bullet...

My local supermarket didn't stock GoCat but I managed to get similar from the pet shop, like a mini weetabix. He wolfed that along with some chicken, what a result !
He is still retching slightly but is really so much better.
Hope you're kitties are better Purple_Popple, i'm very relieved that I don't have to tread carefully any more !!

Catnip, don't talk to me about catnip - my neigbour has some, Black Spot rolls in it and comes in high as a kite every night....
Furballs are at order of the day at the moment, constant moulting - we tried Royal Canin hairball biscuit but it didn't seem to make a lot of difference, I'm washing the third cushion cover of the week :-(
