A few months ago, I bought a chilli plant from Tesco (So nothing special, I am not even sure what type of chilli's it grows)
At first, I had loads of chilli's off it, all went red and the flavour was lovely.
After a while, the chilli's stopped growing an flowers started growing in there place, these were just dying and falling off the plant!! A bit of trusty Googling led me to brushing the pollon from flower to flower... Which worked WOOOHOOOO!! I now have about 30 chillis all growing on my plant (Happy face) however, there are about 5-10 of them that are full sized, but WILL NOT turn red! I know I can pick them and use them green, but I like the hotter flavour and red colour that they add to dishes!
Does anyone know what I need to do to finish them off or is that it now? have they decided not to grow that way anymore?
Many thanks, Vickie
P.S Not sure if you are able to tell, but I am most certainly note the most green fingered person in the world (I think the chilli plant is the longest I have kept anything alive for that matter!!) so please could any advice or suggestions be passed in simple terms hehe!!
Probably too late now but for future reference, when the second batch of flowers start to appear you need to pile on the feeder (tomato feeder I think) then you should get another batch of chillis.
Give it a weekly feed with miracle grow and you might get a third flush of flowers and fruit. You could always over winter the chilli plant but cutting it back by 2/3, keeping it in a bright, but cool and frost free place and keep it on the dry side. Then, next spring, start it back into growth by gradually increasing the watering, giving it a weekly feed and giving it lots of sun and warmth.
