Some good sized, sweet chestnuts to be had right now!
Not as big as the imported ones in the shops, but still worth looking for.

I like them the traditional way, slit and roasted on a shovel, over an open fire.

How do you like yours ?

Never really liked them, but as kid I had many happy Sunday afternoons as a family"chestnutting" in the local woods.
I like them sauteed with mixed vegetables.
...and in vegetable fried rice.
Roasted and dunked in salt.
there are loads of trees around here but the nuts are very shrivelled this year.

Woofgang, I was disappointed initially, when they first started to fall a couple of weeks back (possibly squirrels biting them off before they were fully ripe) but just yesterday, I managed to find a few bigger ones, so it may still be worth keeping an eye out for them.

Good Luck - Chip.

Saw bagged chestnuts on sale in Morrisons yesterday. At £3 for a 400gm bag. That's £9.50 a kilo. Ouch!!
