Help With Vet Bills

A neighbour has her 47yr old daughter living with her, daughter pays no rent but receives a disability benefit which goes towards food/bills etc. Daughters dog has become ill and needs to go to the vets which she can't afford. Does anyone know of a charity who would be able to help. TIA

I think that the PDSA will only help someone who is entitled to housing benefits. If they can't help then maybe see what the vet thinks about paying in instalments. I am so glad that I have insurance for my two.

As far as I am aware the pdsa can help with vets bills if you receive housing benefit or council tax benefit.If you are unsure it might be worth getting the number of your local psda and dropping it round to your neighbour so she can enquire.Hope this helps

None of the big ones can help as she doesn't receive housing/council tax benefits.

Both PDSA and RSPCA only help people who live in the 'catchment area' for the nearest clinic as well as the rule about housing benefit.
All vets I know will except payment in instalments as long as you are honest with them about your finances, their first duty is to stop animals suffering.

My local vet's has a sign on the wall that says they will never turn away a sick animal if the owner can`t pay. It might be worth phoning a few practices to see what they say.

I think the installment plan will be her best option, I know she loves her dog dearly and to be honest he's the one thing that keeps her going (although she lives with mum they don't get on too well)
As wolf63 said thank goodness for insurance, we've just made a £2000 claim, would've lost Coco without it.
