I brought my dogs in last night due the fireworks and bangers. My dogs and cat were terrified of the noise and wouldn’t stop barking all night. Tell me, what is the point of bangers really? Ok fireworks have nice lights but bangers are a waste of time. I wonder how many animals are injured this time of year as dogs chase bangers etc. Complete waste of time, my kids will be nowhere near them. Fireworks should be made illegal again and only seen at shows.
Oh tell me about it......During the summer we get fireworks from teenagers school leaving parties. then its halloween, then Diwali, then Christmas then New Year. The public events are ok because you know when they will be on and when they will start and stop but private events are a real pain if you have pets that are scared of them.
I will never understand how the Health & Safety brigade fuss about such stupid things like kids playing with conkers, going way over the top and yet fireworks can be bought in the shops and used absolutely anywhere. Keep the public displays by all means, but not for use out in the street for weeks on end.
All down to money, friends. The Govt receive a ton of tax out of sales at a slow time of year. Like alcohol and cigarettes, the government won't give them up (literally)
I agree, fireworks should be sold under licence and displays should only take place during Guy Fawkes week.
I think folk forget that they are explosives! And the supermarkets always seem to be selling them at two for the price of one.
We're fine because we live in the country, and all our dogs are gun dogs so not bothered by the noise. But I have friends living in towns or who have pets that are scared by the noise, and it's a horrible time of year for them.
Luckily my dogs are not scared of them, but there are thousands that are and DogLost have been inundated with lost dogs yet again and many have been killed or injured. Last year I collected two dead bodies of dogs who had been frightened and escaped. I wouldn't mind if it was just on 5th November, or even the Saturday closest, so we knew what to expect but with it falling in the middle of the week we have been getting them every night since last week and today I saw a sign for a bonfire party on 8th November! Ban them from free sale and limit them to organised events.
How true! My daughter's dog pee'd in the house when there was a party nearby last week and one year he was desperately trying to climb the walls in the shower room. It was really pathetic. I wouldn't mind if only bangers were banned but preferably all of them.
Animals here tend to get used to it. When the IRA blew up XtraVision at the top of the street my dog barked for about 20 seconds and my cat cranked open one eyelid before going back to sleep, as if to say "them feckin' eejits at it again!"
Bangers haven't been available to members of the public since the late 1990's and fireworks have a maximum noise level by law under the firework regulations. They are not as noisy as they once were.
