Has Someone Got Room In Their Heart And Home For This Poor Dog?

I have fostered dogs for this small charity and I hope the Ed will let me put out this plea for one of their longer term residents. The cold weather is here and Copper, a 14-year-old Doberman/X is about to spend his second winter in freezing kennels. He has waited 18 months for a home and is still waiting and it is taking its toll on his health as you can see if you click on page 8 on the following link.

If you can't adopt him permanently then could you offer him a foster home for a while? He would be so grateful. The ideal placement would be as an only pet as he doesn't much like other dogs or cats and he does have separation anxiety. On the plus side he loves people, is undemanding, enjoys his walks which would ideally be in a low dog density area. He is very happy to snooze the day away in front of the fire afterwards.

I can post an adoption form or a foster form for anyone who feels they could help Copper, or you can find it on the website. Thanks for reading. X

When you think of all the people who might be saying 'oh, lets get a puppy for Christmas', this really is sad.

My dogs would accept any other dog but have an old lab to care for as owner not able to at present. Good luck with Copper. Will he wear a dog coat in winter?
I can't have Copper due to landlord not allowing dogs and the fact we already have 2 cats.
Could you email the local papers and radio stations asking them to print/transmit an appeal?
Sorry to read your post ladybirder and not able to be much help for all sorts of reasons ( living in Oz would be the first ) but I hope some one can help out with Copper.....good luck, he looks a dear soul

Tilly you've been marvellous thank you. And yes I had noticed the other thread.

If you go back to the link I posted in my OP, click on Page 8 and go down right to the bottom, you will see that an old fosterer, a wonderful chap called John has taken pity on Copper although he already has too many dogs (7!), some fostered from RR. This can only be temporary until someone who can offer longer term care comes forward as John is so overloaded with 8 now. But at least Copper is OK tonight but if you read John's post he says Copper didn't react to his other dogs! That is amazing. That could open up a whole load of opportunities for him. Early days yet but I'll be looking to see if there is a further post on Copper's thread in the morning. I hope they are all peacefully snoring away,

Seadogg, yes, he does wear a coat thank you. Daffy the charity do use local radio and papers and other dog sites. And Facebook is used by the organisers and helpers as well.
this is breaking my heart,i am already looking after my sons dog and have to get a dog walker for him as I am not fit, sorry
What a lovely man to take Copper in even though he has 7 other dogs. I hope he had a good night with his new friends and that somebody will come along and give him a permanent, loving home. If my dog would accept another then I would be there but it is not fair to upset my dog. He was also a rescue dog and it took me a little time to settle him. Keep us posted about Copper. I have been thinking of him all night.
He's been playing on my mind as well quizzy, it's his age that's doing it. In all likelihood this will be his last winter and I would have loved to be able to give him a last hurrah before he crossed rainbow bridge but I have a dog who is a bully. Hopefully he'll settle in his foster home.
I know there are hundreds of dogs and other animals out there looking for a safe, loving home but Copper really has got to me. I think it is because I am a complete nut when it comes to animals. I absolutely love them and if I had the room, time and money I would have loads more.
Morning, fellow dog lovers. I hope Copper had a nice warm bed last night.
La, la, la.

Good morning animal lovers. I'm watching Copper's thread to see if John posts about last night which he probably will. Amazing that this dog who was said to be unable to mix with others was fast asleep in a room full of them!! I do hope this opens up his chances of a home. Got to take mine to the vet this morning so will be back later. Thank you all for your support of dear Copper, especially, but not exclusively, Tilly. X
You and Copper are very welcome, ladybirder. Let us know how it's going will you?

Oh dear, poor John. I'll C&P his first post today to save interested ABers having to click back on Copper's thread. Here goes:

"Thank you, Vicky....you're right.

And to make matters worse, I had a new pair of glasses a couple of days ago with "variefocal" lenses. These need getting used to.

Yesterday I fell down nine stairs....fortunately on my backside....but it shook me up, and this morning I missed the kerb, fell onto the pavement with Benny in my hand, and have a really badly sprained ankle (if it's not broken)....it's too swollen to go to the hospital about....may do so after the weekend. Impossible to walk, and a long slow process to get upstairs!!!!

But that's not about Copper. He is just fine. He is very happy curled up on the front seat of the car for an hour or so while the others go out into the garden for a few minutes. I'm not saying how the sleeping arrangements were eventually solved last night, but Copper slept "like a log" using me as a pillow.

He's going for his first walk with the dog walker in about ten minutes time....just for half an hour...I'll update later.

But a lovely old gentleman....warts an' all. (quite literally)!!!! "
***********************

Oh dear, poor chap, he really shouldn't have to be coping with 8 dogs at his age and all to save at least half of them being in kennels.

Sounds as if Copper wouldn't be left, reading between the lines, and John had to sleep on the sofa with him. That's the sort of thing John does. I remember once he slept on the floor all night with a Staffie bitch who was howling for her newly separated puppy. I hope someone comes forward for Copper soon, if not on here, at the rescue or elsewhere.
why do dogs take preference over human beings? sorry but cant stand manky mutts!!
Because some dogs are more preferable than some humans!
Perhaps this isn't thread for you then, piggynose.
Thanks for the update, ladybirder.
